Cerebral Palsy

Patients with Cerebral Palsy have a high incidence of scoliosis which often becomes severe. This can lead to sitting balance problems for patients who are wheelchair dependent, and ultimately to respiratory and cardiac problems. Some patients can be treated with bracing, but many will benefit from surgery.

When excellent correction is obtained, patients can sit without using their arms for support, thus freeing their upper extremities for other uses. For cerebral palsy patients who are attempting to walk, surgical correction can often improve their balance and walking ability. Please contact the office for details.
