This patient had metastatic melanoma at L5. Complex tumor reconstruction procedures are routinely done at NYU Medical Center utilizing a multi-specialty team approach. Embolization of this patient's tumor was done to prevent excessive bleeding preoperatively, thereby allowing surgical excision and reconstruction to proceed safely. The small metal coils visible above interrupt blood flow to the tumor. On the right, anterior and posterior reconstruction allowed this patient to return to work in six weeks. |
